Turning Healthy Habits Into Rituals

No matter what’s driving your desire to manage your weight, it’s important to remember that 77% more people reported being satisfied when taking Plenity 5+ days per week, compared to those who took it less often.

But even when you’ve got motivation to spare and a clear goal in mind, remembering to take your capsules twice daily, 20 minutes before each meal with 16 oz of water, can still be challenging. So today we’re going to share a little brain and behavior science that will make staying on track a lot easier. We’ll start with a walk down memory lane…

Think back to being a kid at the dentist’s office. Your worries about cavities might have been soothed a bit knowing that you were going to get to dig through a prize box at the end of the visit, right? That’s because our human brains really love positive reinforcement. What does that have to do with Plenity? Glad you asked!

A Hack for Healthy Habits

Linking something you have to do with something you want to do is called “habit stacking” and research shows that it really works.

For example, imagine if you could only listen to your favorite album or podcast when you were vacuuming. Chances are that your floors might be a little cleaner right now!

The same goes for taking Plenity and using the time between taking your capsules and eating your meal to do something you look forward to.

We know that when life is busy it’s pretty tempting to use your 20 minutes after taking your capsules to keep grinding away. But the truth is, you’ll set yourself up for more success and productivity if you use that time more intentionally by creating a new, healthy ritual.

Brainstorming New Rituals

Grab a pen and paper (or open a notes app on your phone) and take a few minutes to jot down a few enjoyable things you could do during the 20 minutes after you take your capsules. If you’re not used to making time for yourself, it might take some practice. But imagine how life might be different if you prioritized a few things that make you happy two times a day.

Here are some examples:

  • Take a walk
  • Meal prep
  • Spend time with your kids
  • Read a book
  • Meditate
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Pull some weeds in the garden
  • Play with your dog
  • Head over to the Facebook Community to connect with other members
  • Get creative: write/paint/draw/etc.
  • Knock out some chores or tidy up your workspace

Once you start practicing your new ritual, you’re probably going to notice that taking time for yourself feels pretty good!

But like any new habit, sticking to a new ritual is a lot easier when you have a predictable routine. Things get a little more challenging when you’re traveling or when your schedule changes. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to navigate these situations.

Pause for a moment and think about the next few weeks. Is there anything on the horizon that will make it hard to stick to your Plenity Ritual? We know that holidays, travel, weekends, and family gatherings can be tough to navigate. But the good news is that you can continue to enjoy all of those things while working toward your goal.

Staying on Track

Take a look at this list of suggested strategies for maintaining your new twice-daily ritual in unpredictable situations.

  • Enjoying some company? Look for ways to share your new ritual with others. If you’re visiting with someone, invite them to take a walk with you!
  • Traveling? See how many laps you can make around the airport terminal before your meal.
  • At a family event? Excuse yourself and find a quiet place to read a chapter or two of your book before dinner.
  • Busy with weekend errands? Pack a lunch and listen to music in your car for 20 minutes before your meal.

Now that you’ve given some thought to your new twice-daily ritual (and how to stick to it!), we’d love for you to share it with other members who might need a little inspiration. Just head on over to the private Plenity Facebook Community to join the conversation!

Way to go! And stay tuned for your next course on goals and progress.
